We are the ‘wonky walkers’ – a very happily married couple who despite having an impressive range of disabilities and medical quirks between us, like to travel and have adventures. OK they might not be as hard core as climbing Everest, but trust me, sometimes it can feel like that when the odds are stacked against you. As we’re both quietly stubborn though, there’s absolutely no way that we’d ever take no for an answer, and stay home watching telly. Life is far too short.

Rich has NF2 – Neurofibromatosis type 2, is profoundly deaf, has epilepsy (sleep seizures), and paralysis in various parts of his body thanks to extensive surgery and nerve damage. At the moment he’s on chemo for NF2 brain tumours. I, Hayley have hypermobility EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome), POTS (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome), chronic migraine, and am waiting on a diagnosis for a lung condition that appeared early last year. Whilst we spend a fair bit of time seeing doctors, we never take anything for granted, and try to live our lives as fully as possible. Our walking and wild swimming trips absolutely help keep us sane.
